Mission of KMB
Keep Michigan Beautiful, Inc. is a501(c)3 non-profit, public service organization of volunteers whose goal is to promote anti-littering and beautification projects across the State of Michigan. Projects include outdoor beautification, recycling, clean-up, site restoration and historical preservation. KMB is the only organization sanctioned by the State of Michigan that recognizes and honors beautification programs and activities as well as promotes and educates the public in various aspects of beautification. KMB is supported by memberships, contributions and fundraisers.
Organization of KMB
KMB is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of not more than 50 members, up to 11 may serve on KMB‘s Executive Committee. Members are volunteers that come from all geographic areas of Michigan and are committed to the objectives of KMB as defined in KMB’s By-Laws and Handbook. Executive Committee meetings are held monthly and Board meetings are held up to 4 times a year. An annual board meeting and Awards Ceremony is held each year in October. KMB has an Executive Director (paid employee or volunteer) who represents and implements the policies of KMB.
Responsibilities of Board Directors
- Directors are expected to attend quarterly board meetings and any other meetings that may be necessary. Generally, this is no more than 3-4 meetings a year. If a board director is unable to attend a meeting, they are asked to inform the Secretary or President.
- KMB does not reimburse directors for travel expenses; however, some local communities may do so. Expenses may be claimed as a tax deduction.
- All directors must serve on one or more KMB Committees.
- Directors are expected to pay annual dues as a member/donor set by the Board of Directors.
- Directors will also be asked to participate in KMB fund-raising projects.
- Directors are expected to generate nominations for the KMB Annual Awards Ceremony.
